If your gauge is not moving at all there is a very high likelihood that the capillary tube or pressure gauge is blocked with limescale.

If the gauge sometimes reaches 1 1 2 bar but flicks around a lot or randomly drops to zero or is always sitting at zero then the steam boiler is not building pressure for some reason.
I purchased a breville bes860 professional series coffee machine some time ago 2 years.
If the machine is spewing a lot of steam from the top as it is heating up then the vacuum relief valve may be stuck open.
I tried to clean the machine with a tablet just to check the gauge and almost no water came out and the gauge went all the way to the top of the range.
I tried cleaning de calcifying etc.
It happens to all of us from time to time when our espresso machines start behaving differently.
Machine has not come up to operating pressure.

You might find that your coffee tastes slightly off or your machine makes a weird sound or maybe it just stops working.
Recently regardless of coffee grind sizing the pressure has stayed in the pre infusion level of the gauge and the coffee tastes like water so not the gauge itself.

Turn off and disconnect your machine.
There are so many pipes carrying steam and water round a machine to identify where the problem lies it will be necessary to remove the top from the machine.
Allow it to cool down shut off and disconnect the water line if you have the direct connect version.
If the water gets too hot or not hot enough no crema will be produced.
After a few seconds for the pressure to build up the gauge should reach up to the mid range.
It s worked flawlessly and produced great results up until recently when i started noticing that the pressure gauge wasn t showing any pressure at the group head.
A variation of this test is to tape up the small hole in the black pressure disc and run the test.
Your machine will not dispense steam or hot water until there is sufficient pressure in the hot water boiler.
Remove the top cover and or side uni body.
Troubleshooting espresso machines at home can be no fun but it is a necessity when the taste of your espresso is affected espresso machines need a little attention sometimes.
No machine can produce a crema with burnt coffee beans or a grind that is too coarse or too fine so make sure you re using good beans and an espresso grind when you test your machine.
Also steam based machines won t produce much of a crema if any.
